Reimagining Jewellery: Giving a 4ct Diamond a New Life

There’s something incredibly special about redesigning jewellery. For me, it’s not just about creating something new — it’s about honouring what already exists, preserving its story, and giving it a fresh chapter to shine in.
One of my recent projects with a lovely client, J, is the perfect example of why I adore this process so much.
When Jewellery Needs a New Beginning
J came to me with her engagement ring — a beautiful piece centred around a stunning 4ct diamond. It had been worn and loved every single day, but over time, the setting had started to show just how much life it had lived.
The under gallery had worn away, and some of the claws were missing, meaning the diamond was no longer secure. She was at the point where she felt she might have to stop wearing it altogether — something no one ever wants to do with a piece so full of meaning.
But rather than letting it sit in a box, J wanted to reimagine it into something new.

Designing for Real Life
J leads a busy, hands-on lifestyle and spends a lot of time around animals, so durability was just as important as beauty. She wanted a design that felt modern, strong, and wearable every single day — something she wouldn’t have to worry about.
She was drawn to the clean, sculptural feel of the Prassolite ready-to-wear ring, which became our starting point. From there, I designed a couple of bespoke options for her, exploring different ways to showcase her diamond while ensuring the setting would be secure and practical.
Together, we refined the design until it felt just right — a balance of elegance, strength, and simplicity.
It A Stronger Future in Platinum
For the final piece, we chose to set her diamonds into platinum — one of the most durable and hard-wearing precious metals available. It’s perfect for everyday wear, especially for someone with such an active lifestyle.
What I love most about this process is that while the design is completely new, the heart of the ring remains the same. J’s original diamonds is still the star — now held securely in a setting that will protect it for years to come.
From Worn to Wonderful
Seeing the transformation from a tired, worn setting to a clean, modern piece is always such a special moment. It’s not just a visual change — it’s emotional too.
J can now wear her ring every day again, confidently and comfortably, knowing it’s been designed for her life as it is now.
Why I Love Reimagining Jewellery
Redesigning jewellery is something I truly love. There’s something incredibly meaningful about taking a piece that’s no longer wearable and turning it into something that feels brand new — yet still deeply personal.
Metal can be melted down, gemstones can be reset, and together they can become a completely new design. Nothing is lost — it’s simply transformed.
And the result? A future heirloom. Something that can be worn, loved, and eventually passed down again, carrying both its original story and its new one.
